Norman has kept bees since his teens and studied Agricultural Science at the University of Nottingham. He was apiculturalist at Rothamsted Research and later worked at the University of Sussex. He is former Science Director of the International Bee Research Association and joint editor of The Beekeepers Quarterly magazine.
